Online Stock Trading Forums:
Connecting with Fellow Traders

Online stock trading forums are great for learning all about trading stocks. From trading techniques and tips, to charting ideas and advice about best research sites. They enable individuals who share like
interests a place to discuss anything that relates to the topic. Many of them have topic threads devoted to informing and assisting new investors. As you spend time on the forum and read through numerous posts/replies, you can get a feel for whom you can trust. Make sure you don't spend too much time there, they can be addicting. You will of course want to be spending as much time as possible on money making activities. Stock trading forums can be useful but remember that these visitors do not always have your best interest in mind.

Online stock trading forums are on the internet – a faceless, voiceless, anonymous environment where anyone can be anything they want to be! For example, someone who posts as a CFO of an actual high-tech company on stock trading forums, could actually be a high school sophomore who’s savvy enough to create a very convincing (but totally false) post regarding the upcoming quarterly results for the real company. Or another person posts as “High Flyer” and touts a stock, logs off that alias, and logs-in 3 minutes later as “Ramblin” who trashes the same stock in the same thread.

Watch out for stock manipulations
in online stock trading forums

The authors of trash, dump or pump posts in trading forums online have an agenda, but it’s not to increase your net worth! Become familiar with the arsenal of ploys, ruses and scams.

When you first begin visiting stock trading forums, don’t take anything you read at face value. Check out any information with the company mentioned or any other reputable source to see if the press release information is for real. Ask your broker about any “too good to miss” opportunities, or “dump quick” advisories.

After you’ve spent some time on the stock trading forums, you’ll get to know the members. You’ll soon learn whom you can listen to and what threads and posts to ignore.

In the beginning, avoid any posts that scream with an ALL CAPs subject header, populate the last half of their subject line with “!!!!!!!” or use phrases like: “Here’s a hot tip,” “too good to pass up,” “I can’t believe I’m this lucky,” “I just have to share this with you,” etc.

One last piece of advice: Never give out any personal information in online stock trading forums. Remember, these are strangers. Personal information or any other Identity Theft-enabling information should be guarded more carefully on the internet than you guard your wallet on the street.
